Class 5A

Saturday at 7:00 p.m. - Superdome
Class 3A
St. James 51, Jennings 14
Friday at 7:00 p.m. - Superdome
Jennings doesn't want to hear about being an underdog. At least not coach Rusty Phelps who is quick to point out the Bulldogs have beaten some of the state's best 3A teams during this playoff run.
Still when the team takes the field again no. 1 St. James Friday night, Jenning will be the lowest seeded team to play for a state title since no. 27 Acadiana won class 5A in 2010.
The Bulldogs beat four top-10 teams in their magical playoff run to the Superdome, topping Carroll, Church Point, Sterlington and McDonogh #35 in games decided by one point each.
After an 0-3 start, Jennings found its footing, winning 9 of its last 11 games. Rusty Phelps beleiving his team is not your ordinary 23 seed.
"I just think you have to be playing well right now," he said Monday. "You have to be healthy, which we are in the 15th week. I think our guys, not having more than one starter back on offense who was a sophomore, took a little while to gel. I think that's what's happened."
This game is Jennings' first trip to the Dome since winning a championship in 1992.
The Bulldogs opponent, St. James is 14-0 with a win over Destrahan, who plays in the 5A title game against Acadiana Saturday.
