ERATH — Erath Bobcats

Coach: Eric LeBlanc

Record: 5-6 (Lost 1st Round)

District: 6-3A

Notes: Co-Champs of District 6-3A

It's uncertain still whether or not there will be fans at high school games this fall, but players have still thought about it. For Erath, a team that's often a forgotten child of Vermilion Parish, players know to make headlines, you have to win.

"It's definitely a big responsibility," Bobcats senior lineman Cade Renard said. "Not having your fans there to support, they're all going to be at home waiting for that Facebook post to see what happens. We have to make sure it's a good enough show to make it to the headlines."

Erath trending in the right direction a year ago, as they finished 5-6 while becoming co-champs of District 6-3A, tying with St. Martinville and Kaplan.

The Bobcats graduated six all-distict players, including record setting quarterback Luke Leblanc, leading rusher Jax Thibadeaux and district defensive MVP Tucker Derise.

Erath returns 10 total starters. On offense, wide receiver Gabe Primeaux slides over to quarterback. The Bobcats only returning starters on that side of the ball, four offensive linemen. A group with seven years starting experience already.

"That's the whole game, protecting the quarterback, protecting the running back," Erath Head Coach Eric LeBlanc said. "If you can run the football you can win the game. You control the clock. We have a good strong group coming and like all high school coaches we believe if you control the ball, control the offense, you have a chance to win every game. We did that last year with these guys and look forward to doing that again.

"We know we're basically the backbone of the team," Erath senior center Gage Hebert said. "I think this year is going to be more of a rushing game. We have receivers, but the main thing is receivers will need to to block, rather than last year."
