Beau Chene Gators
Notes: Gators have 11 starters returning in 2020
Its tough times for Beau Chene football, but perhaps there is a light at end of the tunnel?
6'8, 300 pound offensive tackle Devon Manuel is an Arkansas commit and a good cornerstone for the Gators. But with just one win over the last two years, 2nd year Head Coach Sal Diesi is going to bare the weight of the rebuild. He's planning to take over play calling on both sides the of the field this year.
"I'm responsible for everything anyways, so I might as well just do it," Diesi explained. "I got guys that work with us that are doing everything I ask with terminology, alignment, assignment. I'm going to rely heavily on their input when it comes to game planning, but at the end of the day I'll go ahead and take full responsibility."
Beau Chene had just five coaches on staff last fall after Head Coach Richard Morales left just weeks before the season. Diesi took over as the team's third coach in 14 months.
The Gators have never won a playoff game. Diesi is trying to lead a culture change around the program. Step one, establish a little stability.
"In my opinion, each coach had a different coaching style," Beau Chene safety Lane Bergeron said. "It made it hard for the team to adjust. Nobody got used to certain game plans. Everything was all over the place, and we didn't know if we'd have another new coach."
"We're not looking to impress nobody," Beau Chene linebacker Joshua Malbrough added. "But at the same time, we're trying to win as a team and keep doing it one game at a time. Win one game at a time, play on Thanksgiving, stuff like that. Stuff we've never done before. We're trying to do it this season."
Beau Chene returns 11 starters this fall, including 7 on offense.
