How it Happened: Kaplan made another deep run in 2017, but history found a way to repeat itself as the Pirates’ season ended in a state semifinal loss at home against Richwood.
Great, but not great enough might be one way to sum up Kaplan’s recent football run. Year-in-year-out the Pirates make deep playoff runs, but continue chasing an elusive state title. The Pirates look to finally book a trip to the dome in 2018 behind and experienced group that returns 15 starters. Head coach Stephen Lotief admits that he is jostling players around, looking for just a little bit more. Kaplan led late in the semifinal losses to Richwood in 2017, and Amite in 2016. One break, one play, or an ounce of luck could be the difference for Kaplan this season.
