LAFAYETTE (KATC) — Garret Russo is not your typical track star. The four-year middle linebacker for Teurlings Catholic has spent the last two off seasons training in the sport of javelin for coach Brad Taylor’s track and field team.
Taylor, who also serves as Teurlings football’s defensive coordinator, recruited Russo after his junior year of football was over.
Russo quickly took to the sport setting a career personal record of 149 yards, which put him in top position on the six man javelin team.
Both Taylor and Russo hope to up that personal record into the 170s for 2019 to help Russo secure a spot in the state finals.
