YOUNGSVILLE, La (June 28, 2018)- The Acadiana Cane Cutters won the series opener 10-5 against the Victoria Generals as they began a four-game homestand before the All-Star Break next week.

They returned to Fabacher Field after a massive win in Dallas.

The Cutters took an early lead with three runs in the first inning, two of which were driven in by Koi Westbrook (LSUE) with a triple. Westbrook was three for five with five RBIs.

Two more runs were added in the second with an RBI single off the bat of Rhett McCall (Lamar University), who still leads the Texas Collegiate League with a .436 batting average.

The Cutters were not just hot at the plate, but also produced some brilliant defensive plays. Third baseman, Chandler Morris (Texas A&M), got the first out of the fourth inning with a barehanded grab and throw to first base. Starting pitcher, Brayson Smith (UNO) ended that same inning with a great catch on an infield popup. The top of the eighth inning began with a five-four-three double play and ended with a flyout to center fielder, Cole Secrest (Lamar University), the fifth center field flyout of the night.

Smith threw six innings and struck out five batters before Jacob Norman (ULL) took over in the seventh.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again tomorrow (6/29) against the Generals. It is LSU Night! Anyone who wears purple and gold can get in for the discounted price of $5.
