Saints first round pick Marcus Davenport didn’t practice Wednesday, two days after news broke that the defensive end will have surgery after minicamp to repair an injured thumb.

Neither Davenport or the Saints have revealed much about how he injured it, or how serious it is only saying that he’s expected to be ready to go when New Orleans opens up training camp in July.

"Marcus is special," said defensive linemen Sheldon Rankins. "The traits he has. The gifts he was blessed with from the man above. A lot of people weren’t blessed with those. For him right now it’s all about being confident playing fast. We’ve seen flashes. The more he’s able to do it, the more confident he’ll be."
