Three Tigers Earn Recognition From SEC Baseball Coaches

BATON ROUGE, La. – Three LSU baseball players earned postseason awards from the Southeastern Conference Monday in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Pitcher Ma’Khail Hilliard and outfielder Daniel Cabrera were named to the Freshmen All-SEC squad, and sophomore centerfielder Zach Watson was voted to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Hilliard, a right-hander from Central, La., has a 9-4 record this season and is second in the SEC in pitching victories. He has worked 71.1 innings and compiled a 3.53 ERA, allowing 28 earned runs on 63 hits with 28 walks and 66 strikeouts.

Hilliard is coming off an outstanding performance at Auburn last Friday in which he fired 7.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Cabrera, a Baton Rouge product, is batting .331 (59-for-178) with 16 doubles, two triples, eight homers, 47 RBI and 35 runs. He is hitting .514 (19-for-37) in the month of May with three doubles, one triple, three homers, 16 RBI and six runs.

Watson, who features tremendous speed and range in center field, has four outfield assists and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this season. The Ruston, La., product is also hitting .316 (60-for-190) on the year with 14 doubles, two triples, five homers, 27 RBI, 42 runs and 13 stolen bases.
