Lott Launches Cajuns To Victory Over Tulane, 7-6

LAFAYETTE, La. – Sophomore Todd Lott’s two-homer night lifted the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Tulane on Tuesday night at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park as the squad completed the season series sweep of the Green Wave.
 
With the win, the Ragin’ Cajuns (30-23) finish the year with an 11-3 mark in midweek games. Louisiana has also notched 30-plus wins in each of the last six seasons.
 
Junior Nick Lee picked up the victory in a short start tossing two scoreless innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
 
Keagan Gillies took the loss for the Green Wave (24-29) after giving up five runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of work.
 
LEADING THE CAJUNS
 
Lott led the Ragin’ Cajuns offensively going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and was also hit by a pitch. Gavin BourgeoisHunter Kasuls and Zach LaFleur each had two hits in the game as Louisiana outhit Tulane 10-9 in the contest. The Cajuns three homers in the game tied a season high.
 
Junior Daniel Lahare extended his hit streak to a team-best 14 games going 1-for-4 with a run.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Louisiana took an early lead in the bottom of the first when Lahare scored on a Gillies wild pitch. Later in the inning, Kennon Fontenot tripled to right center to plate a run and give the Cajuns a 2-0 edge. LaFleur brought home the final run of the inning on an infield single to shortstop to make the score 3-0.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Kole McKinnon scored on a wild pitch and Bourgeois drove a solo homer over the fence in left to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
Todd Lott increased the Louisiana advantage to 6-0 in the fifth inning with a solo blast to right field.
 
Tulane got on the board in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run single up the middle by Luke Glancy to cut the lead to 6-2.
 
Glancy drove in his third run of the game in the top of the eighth on an RBI double to centerfield to make the score 6-3.
 
Lott got the run back for the Cajuns in the bottom half of the eighth with his second home run of the game launching a 1-1 pitch from reliever Ben White over the fence in left.
 
The Green Wave made things interesting in the top of the ninth as Trevor Jensen drove a three-run homer to left to cut the Louisiana lead to 7-6, but reliever Logan Stoelke retired the next three batters he faced to close out the game.
 
UP NEXT
 
Louisiana closes out the regular season with a three-game series against ULM at Russo Park starting Thursday at 6 p.m. Game two between the Cajuns and Warhawks is slated for Friday at 6 p.m. First pitch of the series finale will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns will honor the 2018 senior class with Senior Day on Friday, while a special on-field graduation ceremony will take place Saturday prior to the final game of the series.
