LAFAYETTE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball captured a 2-1 walk-off win over Georgia State on Thursday to advance in the winner’s bracket of the Sun Belt Softball Tournament at Lamson Park.
Louisiana (37-13) snapped a 1-all tie after Kelli Martinez and Kara Gremillion ignited a two-out rally in the seventh inning with back-to-back singles. Martinez scored on the very next play when the Panthers (31-23) attempted a force out at second, but Gremillion slid into the bag before the throw to keep the inning alive.
It was the fourth walk-off win of the season and 13th come-from-behind win for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Louisiana erased a 1-0 deficit in the sixth inning when Jolie Readeaux delivered a pinch-hit RBI single which plated Martinez.
No. 21 Louisiana advanced to the winner’s bracket final of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday. The Ragin’ Cajuns will face Texas State (40-13) for a spot in Saturday’s championship game.
