Cajuns get Georgia State in quarterfinal match-up

LAFAYETTE – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball is set to face Georgia State at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 10 in its opening contest of the 2018 Sun Belt Tournament at Lamson Park.

Georgia State (31-22) advanced to meet the second-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns (36-13) in Thursday’s winner’s bracket contest with an 8-3 win over South Alabama during Wednesday’s opening round.

The matchup will air on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana region and the 1420 app worldwide with Steve Peloquin calling the action. Live video will be provided by an ESPN+ broadcast that features play-by-play from Drew Fellios and analysis from Francesca Enea.

The loser faces UTA in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday while the winner advances to the winner’s bracket final at 11 a.m., on Friday to play for a spot in Saturday’s 1 p.m., championship game.

The Ragin’ Cajuns and Panthers are meeting in the SBC Tournament winner’s bracket semifinals for the third time in the past four seasons. Louisiana claimed the victory in 2015 in San Marcos, Texas, and in 2016 in Mobile Ala. – the lone two prior SBC Tournament meetings between the two programs.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have won their Sun Belt Tournament opener each year since 2010 and are 16-2 all-time when opening play in the league’s event

The Ragin’ Cajuns are seeking a third consecutive Sun Belt Tournament championship after coming away with the title in Mobile (2016) and Troy (2017) the past two seasons. Louisiana has claimed the title 14 times in the 18-year history of the SBC Tournament and sports an all-time record of 56-8 in the event.
