In Gerry Glasco’s first season at Louisiana it didn’t take long for the head coach to move his focus from senior pitcher Kylee Jo Trahan, to the Cajuns bountiful crop of young pitchers.

Trahan allowed just one run in her first 17.1 innings this season, but as the season progressed her role became defined as a bullpen arm, paving way to underclassmen Summer Ellyson and Casey Dixon.

Ellyson, a sophomore, is second in the Sun Belt in ERA with a 1.57. She leads the Cajuns ahead of Trahan who has a 2.09. Both Dixon and fellow freshman Carrie Boswell also sport a sub 3.0 ERA. Dixon is second on the team in appearances and innings pitched.

"When I cam here, I knew the post important thing was going to be to develop our pitching staff and create good defense," said Glasco during his weekly press conference. "Obviously when you lose the 48 home runs of DJ and Aleah, plus the good seniors they had that parted. So the critical thing that would give us a chance to come out of here with a good, good, good pitchers in the circle a good bullpen and we have to play good defense. And when we do that we’ve very effective."

The Cajuns wrap up the regular season facing ULM. That series begins Thursday.
