PRESS RELEASE

YOUNGSVILLE – Cassidy Lambert of Academy of the Sacred Heart had the day’s low round and then survived a playoff with first-day leader Liza Lepeyre of Isidore Newman to claim the individual title in the girls’ Division II segment of the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Lambert, last year’s fifth-place individual finisher, turned in a two-under-par 72 Tuesday over the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes course. She had entered the final round trailing Lepeyre by four shots but made up that deficit in the final round with the two tying at three-over 151.

In the playoff at the par-four first hole, Lambert holed a three-foot par putt while Lepeyre missed her 16-footer for par to give Lambert (79-72) the title. Lepeyre’s Monday 75 had been good enough for a two-stroke lead over the field entering the final round.

Lacassine’s Carly Whittington and Daphney Tilton finished third and fourth in the individual standings, and those finishes were good enough to give the Cardinals an easy nine-stroke win in the race for the team title. Lacassine finished at 12-over 308 to defend the title the same two players had won last year, with this year’s score a 19-stroke improvement over the Cardinals’ winning 327 score last year.

Whittington (77-76) and Tilton (81-74) helped Lacassine stay ahead of Sacred Heart’s 317 score as runners-up for the second straight year. Isidore Newman finished third at 332 and Episcopal fourth at 337.

The four top individual finishers were the only ones to break 80 in the final round. Riely Heaslip led Episcopal’s effort and finished fifth individually at 81-80-161, while Shrayon Thibodeaux of Catholic High-New Iberia was sixth at 80-82-162.
