LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Monday the addition of junior college guard Jeremy Hayes to a National Letter-of-Intent for the 2018-19 season.

Hayes, a native of Roseland, La., averaged 16.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a sophomore at Howard (Texas) College. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound product earned first-team All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference honors and was a NJCAA Region 5 selection.

“We’re excited to have Jeremy join the Ragin’ Cajuns family,” Marlin said. “Jeremy is an experienced guard that can score and handle the basketball. He is a good defensive player – similar to the style of Frank Bartley and Johnathan Stove – and he will help us offset the loss of (injured incoming freshman) Kobe Julien.”

The WJCAC Newcomer of the Year led the Hawks to a 22-9 record and a 10-6 mark in league play. Hayes, who was listed as the No. 67 recruit by JucoRecruiting.com, started all 31 games at Howard and shot 42 percent from the field (148-for-347), 39 percent (50-for-128) from behind the 3-point line and 83 percent (151-for-183) from the charity stripe.

Hayes played in 15 games with 12 starts as a freshman at Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College in 2016-17 where he averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

A graduate of John Muir High School in Pasadena, Calif., Hayes was named to Pasadena Star-News All-Area team as a senior in 2015. Hayes played his sophomore season at Amite High School where he was a second-team all-district by the New Orleans Advocate.
