The Scott Fire Department is currently accepting applications for volunteer firefighters.

Those interested should be prepared to work hands on, side by side with Scott firefighters. Applicants will receive training and learn the basics to assist the required tasks.

Previous experience is preferred, but not required.

Volunteer firefighters will, in the future, be eligible to become certified as Firefighter 1 and a state-certified Emergency Medical Responder.

The department says in the job listing that, "becoming a volunteer firefighter is a great way to give back to the community and gain a unique lifetime experience like no other."

If you're interested, check out SFD's Facebook post below for more information and how to apply.

Young residents ages 15-17 can become a Scott Junior Firefighter. For more information on that program, contact SFD through Facebook Messenger.

Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier explained that volunteer firefighters will do more than fight fires - SVFD also responds to vehicle crashes, hazardous conditions, medical emergencies, and more.

"I just wanted people to know that we do other things. We do medical calls, we do medical response. We do things for our community out in the public, so even if firefighting is not your expertise, we can either train you or have other things for you to do."
