The iconic big brown trucks of UPS weren't only out transporting packages this weekend, but were also transporting meals to local children in need.

The distribution began at 11:30 a.m. at Weeks Park and continued until all the meals were handed out.

Volunteers prepared the meals from five area locations throughout New Iberia and Franklin and UPS will use their trucks to deliver the meals to the park.

A drive thru lane was set up for cars with kids to line up and receive their meals.

The event was all part of the Big Brown Cares initiative to help families in need that was founded by a local UPS driver.

"You think about some of these kids that don't have food on their table, this may be the only food that they get," said James "Big Brown" Joseph, CEO of Big Brown Cares. "It's a privilege to have the opportunity to be able to feed a child this weekend."
