ABBEVILLE, La. - Sheriff Mike Couvillon announced Tuesday that the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office will offer free ACT Prep courses in 2020.
The course will be open to all students of Vermilion Parish, and hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.
The classes will be held at the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Training Facility, 14202 Allen Bares Jr. Drive in Abbeville, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
If you are interested in signing up for the class, or just want more information, you can visit vpso.net , or visit our Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook page and click on the ACT PREP link. The class will be offered throughout the year so students can register for them as they become available.
"I am very excited to offer this program to the students of the parish," said Sheriff Couvillon. "Today's Law Enforcement profile has drastically changed from days of old. Yes, we are still in the business of protecting, but serving the community is just as important in today's world. Through this program we want to continue our progress in raising awareness of the importance of a higher education, and the positive influence of community policing. It's no secret that when the youth are involved in furthering their education, extracurricular activities, and positive alternatives, then they become productive members of our society. As Sheriff, if we can assist in creating those productive members, then our community policing efforts have aided in having a lower crime rate."
