A suspect wanted in connection to an October 17 shooting at the Motel 6 in Abbeville has been arrested.
Abbeville Police say that 18-year-old Kenan Willis was arrested Sunday, November 22, after being spotted by police.
Officers say that Willis was observed walking behind an abandoned building and across the roadway. He was approached by officers who say they knew Willis to have an active arrest warrant for Attempted 2nd degree murder.
Willis as arrested without incident.
The department says that officers backtracked to where they observed Willis walking and also located a black Smith and Wesson handgun. The handgun, according to police, was reportedly stolen out of Houston, Texas.
Willis allegedly admitted to hiding the firearm and saying that he had 'found it earlier,' police say.
He was was booked on the warrant as well as Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Obstruction of Justice and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies due to a 2020 conviction for the charge of Simple Robbery.
Police say the October 17 shooting at the Motel 6 in which Willis was wanted is still under investigation.
One person was struck by a bullet and was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries following that incident.
