Winter Weather: St. Mary Parish

As of 9 a.m. Monday, Sheriff Blaise Smith advises the public to stay at home and off the roads at this time if travel isn't absolutely necessary.

"We have ice forming on overpasses and some vehicles have encountered ice and have slid off the roadway," Smith says in a Facebook post. "Just stay safe. Stay home."

Morgan City Police echo that advice:

"Morgan City is currently receiving a wintery weather mix of frozen rain," MCPD reported at about 8 a.m. "U.S. 90 bridge over the Atchafalaya River and the Greenwood Overpass is closed due to icy conditions on the road. D.O.T.D is currently placing deicer/salt on Highway 182 bridge. Please be patient traffic will be slow-moving on the Highway 182 bridge. Please do not get out and travel on roadways until the roadway conditions improve. Stay Safe!"

Here are some road closures in the parish:

3:48 am: Highway 90 at Highway 318 is now shut down due to ice. Deputies are checking other overpasses.

U.S. 90 Bridge Closed 2/15/2021 @ 7:17 A.M. - Due to icy conditions, the U.S. 90 Bridge is currently closed to vehicle traffic. The Greenwood Overpass on Highway 182 is closed due to icing. Officers are paroling roads, overpasses, and bridges today and tomorrow as the predicted temperatures fall below freezing.

Teche Action Clinic which has offices in St. Mary Parish says it will be closed on Monday due to weather conditions. They will reopen after Mardi Gras.
