A third arrest has been made in connection with two shootings that occurred earlier this week in Morgan City.
Dearius Young was arrested Thursday after Morgan City Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 1200 block of Railroad Avenue. Officers located shell casings from a firearm in the roadway and during the investigation located a vehicle on Seventh St. with evidence of being recently struck by gunfire.
Detectives conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Young. They learned the vehicle was involved in the Fourth St. shooting on Monday, August 17, and in the Eleventh St. shooting on Tuesday, August 18; they also discovered that Young discharged a firearm in the Eleventh St. shooting.
During the traffic stop, a 9mm handgun was located in Young's possession. An arrest warrant was obtained and Young was placed under arrest.
Young was booked at the Morgan City Police Department and is facing charges of Obstruction of Justice-Tampering with Evidence and Illegal Use of Dangerous Instrumentalities.
The investigation is ongoing and police are further seeking possible suspects in this investigation as well as the recent shootings.
