This week, two indictments were handed down in a Father's Day fatal shooting that happened in Opelousas.
A grand jury chose to indict 36-year-old Kendall Singleton and 38-year-old Mary F. Savoie in the death of Joseph Stanley Boxie, Jr. The formal charges were on second degree murder for both accused in that shooting.
The shooting happened on Sunday, June 16, 2019, Father's Day. Police say that Boxie had been shot numerous times as he sat in his vehicle that was parked in the driveway of his home.
Following an investigation, Opelousas Police say it was uncovered that the shooting was a result of a dispute between Boxie and Singelton who both were in a relationship with Savoie.

A second degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
