Authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting his nephew during an alleged argument in Sunset last month.

Sunset Police, with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department, responded to a hotel within Lafayette city limits early Saturday morning. Officers were able to locate the suspect, Michael Baloney, who was wanted in connection with the October 8 shooting.

Baloney was arrested without incident and was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. He is facing one charge of Attempted Second Degree Murder.

Police responded to shots fired on Napoleon Avenue shortly before noon on October 8, where they located a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. Officers determined the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with Baloney, who is the victim's uncle. Baloney allegedly produced a firearm, shot his nephew, and fled the scene.

Sunset Police tell us the victim, who was in critical condition after the shooting, has since recovered and been released from the hospital.
