It's not that easy to feel light-hearted these days, but one local restaurant is trying to help.
In recent weeks Ruffino’s has transformed its operations into offering To-Go only meals at both their Baton Rouge and Lafayette locations.
Like so many other restaurants, they have had to adapt in order to remain open. Ruffin Rodrigue, the owner of Ruffino’s and former LSU football player, knew they were in trouble as soon as he heard the words, “Social Distancing."
And while he says knew it was for the best, he couldn’t imagine a Louisiana with no opportunity to gather and celebrate life. Over the years Celebrating Life had become more than Ruffin’s personal philosophy, it was also the core mission at his restaurants.
It can be traced back to his childhood when he often worked with his father preparing graves at a cemetery. He says he was taught then how important life is, and that each moment we have to celebrate with friends, family, and loved ones is priceless.
The traditions of Celebrating Life at Ruffino’s run deep for so many here in Louisiana, and in order to remind everyone to continue to make every night remarkable, Ruffin began including cotton candy with each to-go order Ruffino’s served.
He has set up his own cotton making machine in his office, where he can be found at all hours of the day and night covered in pink and blue sugar.
"Whether it’s the food we serve or the service we provide, our goal is to ensure a remarkable experience for our guests that will always be remembered. Since can’t open invite them into our dining rooms and bars, I wanted to give everyone something that might put a smile on their faces and remind them of better days to come," he says.
Rodrigue says he has stood by his philosophy from the beginning and doesn’t plan on letting it go, even in the midst of a pandemic.
