Despite the loss the Thomas family has experienced since Hurricane Laura, they’re now receiving help thanks to the kindness of strangers.
“We just want to find some piece of being back to normal.”
Like many in Southwest Louisiana, Kris Thomas and her four children have found a temporary home, moving to Lafayette after evacuating from Lake Charles.
"I was from hotel to hotel. It’s been really hard but throughout that process I have been humbled,” said Thomas.
With the temporary move, she's been trying her best to make it feel more at home for her family - something she's getting help with.
Thomas reached out to the organization “People Helping People," asking for a couch. The group partnered with Billy Navarre car dealerships and went beyond Thomas’ expectations, bringing gifts to help her family have a Merry Christmas.
“It’s her turn to reap her harvest because she has planted those seeds in order to be able to where she is today with us and receiving their blessing,” said PHP President, Jason Ledet.
“I felt very loved, very overwhelmed. I was like all of this is for us? I only asked for a couch,” Thomas expressed.
Thomas is now encouraging other hurricane victims.
"Do what you can do daily. God will never put on you what you cannot handle,” Thomas added.
Both organizations say they will continue serving families who are in need.
