Many of you have found unique and creative ways to celebrate Halloween during the pandemic.

In a lot of cases changes had to be made to follow social distancing and safety guidelines.

Some of the youngest residents in Opelousas made the most of a drive thru Halloween celebration.

Despite the pandemic changing how everyone is celebrating Halloween this year, hundreds of cars rolled through the Opelousas Civic Center to get candy without having to leave their cars.

"Today is kind of going to be different because I'm used to going door to door,” said Aniyah Johnson.

Although it's a different type of trick or treating experience for kids in Opelousas, it didn't take away their desire for sweet treats.

"I like Tootsie Rolls and Snickers,” said Clarisa Amand.

“I love candy and I love being scared sometimes,” Johnson exclaimed.

Several organizations pitched in to give these kids a semi-normal Halloween experience, all wearing masks and handing out candy through the car windows. The kids weren't the only ones excited about drive thru Halloween.

"I'm very excited that they get all this candy and all this sugar and they won't sleep tonight. I'm bringing her to her daddy,” parent Heather Buller said.

Everyone acknowledges it's not the traditional Halloween, but they're making the most of unusual circumstances.

"We didn't have the traditional Halloween, but we celebrated Halloween in a safe way knowing what we're all confronting these days,” Opelousas Mayor Julius Alsandor added.
