Hurricane Season is still weeks away, but the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure near the Bahamas.

According to the NHS website, there is the potential for subtropical development this weekend, a couple hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas.

The area of low pressure is expected to develop this weekend, and conditions appear conducive for it to acquire some subtropical characteristics as it moves northeast through this weekend. The chance for formation through the next five days is about 50 percent. At this point, it does not appear that this system presents any risk to the Gulf.

The next outlook will be issued by the NHS on this system by 9 p.m. tonight, and of course we'll have more later today on KATC TV3.
