Le Festival De Mardi Gras a Lafayette is taking place at Cajun Field all weekend. New this year was a Jeep parade that drove right through the festival.

It was a Mardi Gras surprise to those who were in attendance.

Troy Racca and his friends set up their home for the weekend for the third year in a row.

"We sit down, light a fire, cook some gumbo, drink some beer," Troy Racca said.

"We had to figure out what to do on Friday nights" said Troy Bergeron, whose crew has also been attending the festival for years.

In the years past, these campers came to Cajun Field on Friday nights to prepare for the parades on Saturday. But this year, they were completely surprised to hear a new parade would roll past them.

"Someone said they had a parade today," Racca said. "Come to find out it's a Jeep parade."

Jeeps and truck came through their campsites, with participants dancing and throwing beads.

"I think it's going to be nice to have something to do on Friday instead of just waiting," Bergeron said.

"It's kind of slow on Friday nights, but since they're having a parade, you can see a lot more people coming, so that's great," Racca added.

It's a parade many hope will keep on rolling.
