The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office is continuing to amend some services considered non-critical and/or administrative in nature in an effort to protect employees and the public against transmission of COVID-19.

Effective March 25 at 6 p.m., deputies will process non-emergency calls for service over the telephone rather than in person. Deputies will continue to respond in person to calls considered to be emergency in nature. Please dial 911 for emergencies and dial 337-893-0871/337-643-1777/337-536-9677 for non-emergencies. Law enforcement operations will be maintained 24 hours a day.

As of noon on Tuesday, public access to the Sheriff's Annex, parish jail, criminal investigations, and task force buildings has been suspended until April 13 and may be extended beyond that date. These divisions continue to be manned with personnel limited to being able to conduct business over the telephone. These administrative offices may close depending on how the emergency continues to develop.

VPSO has created specific emergency procedures designed to help VPSO maintain operations while protecting employees and the public. All programs and visitation at the parish jail were suspended effective March 12.

Taxes and traffic fine payments can be made online by visiting the VPSO website at www.vpso.net. As of 2 p.m. on Tuesday, residents can pay taxes and traffic fines at a drive-thru location at 407 Charity St. in Abbeville.
