Funeral services were held today for Kendal Thompson, a Jeanerette teen who was shot and killed last week.
Services were held at First Jerusalem Baptist Church.
A vigil was held for Thompson Thursday in Jeanerette, where family and friends gathered at the spot where Kendal was killed.
Kendal was an active member of the St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11, where he was a junior firefighter.
His coworkers there said they could see him growing into a responsible firefighter. The fire chief even ordered Kendal a custom polo, which he said is a "big step" for the junior program.
Jeanerette Fire Chief Sherry Landry said, "He was a character. He liked to clown around...but we're going to miss him."
Authorities believe an altercation led to the shooting. Four people have been arrested in connection with his death.
