A vigil for Kendal Thompson, the 17-year-old shot and killed last week in Jeanerette, will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020.

The St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11 Chief Clarence Clark tells KATC that the vigil location has now been changed to Wilson Street, just a few blocks down from where Thompson was killed. That vigil will begin at 5:15 pm. The vigil was originally planned to be held at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Guilberteau Street in Jeanerette.

Thompson died Friday, January 17, 2020, following a shooting that law enforcement believe was the result of an altercation. Four people have been arrested in connection with his death.

The Junior Firefighter joined the St. Mary fire protection crew in September of 2019 and was on his way to becoming a full-fledged firefighter.

KATC's Briana Aldridge spoke to Chief Clark who said he even ordered a custom-made polo for Thompson, which is a big step for the junior program.

"I would always give a few months to see exactly does a person deserve their shirt," explained Clark.

Funeral arrangements have now been set for Thomspon. Arrangements will be held for Mr. Kendal Thompson, Jr., 17, at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2020, at First Jerusalem Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Jeanerette. A gathering of family and friends will also be held on Saturday at First Jerusalem Baptist Church at 8:00 A.M. until the time of the service. A full obituary for Kendall can be found here.
