St. Mary Parish Coroner Dr. Eric Melancon confirmed Saturday afternoon 15 residents at Legacy Nursing Home in Franklin who have tested positive for COVID-19. Those residents are quarantined to a single unit.

Five employees (4 CNAs and 1 LPN) are also COVID-19 positive, with three pending employee results. Those 3 pending cases are quarantined at home as per parish protocol, KBZE reports.

Officials were notified of the first case of the novel coronavirus at the nursing home on Thursday, April 9.

Dr. Melancon has coordinated with nursing home administrators, hospital CEOs, medical directors, and the department of health director, to address concerns and issues regarding these cases.

Dr. Melancon said he will visit the nursing home again early next week to reassess the situation, according to KWBJ TV 22 in Morgan City.

He added that one case involved a nursing facility resident who had been transported to another facility for examination, then later tested positive for COVID-19.

As of Saturday at noon, LDH was reporting 105 cases in St. Mary Parish, along with 2 deaths.

The second death was an elderly woman who died at Ochsner St. Mary Thursday afternoon, Dr. Melancon said.
