St. Mary Parish Officials say that a case of COVID-19 has been reported at a nursing home in Franklin.

St. Mary Parish President David Hanagriff and St. Mary Parish Coroner Dr. Eric Melancon said they were made aware of the case at Legacy Nursing Home on Thursday, April 9.

Hanagriff says that they are in contact with the Louisiana Department of Health regarding the case.

They say that proper protocols, as set by the Centers for Disease Control, were in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will continue at the facility.

Personal Protective Equipment has been supplied by the St. Mary Parish Office of Homeland Security to support the nursing home, according to officials.

Region 3, which includes St. Mary Parish, currently has 24 of 31 nursing home facilities with positive cases of COVID-19.

Hanagriff says that health officials are monitoring the situation and are staying in contact with all involved.

On Thursday, the Louisiana Department of Health was reporting 89 cases of COVID-19 in St. Mary Parish.

The first death from the disease in the parish was also reported on Thursday.
