ST. MARTINVILLE, LA — It will soon be safer to exchange goods sold online in St. Martinville.
With the increasing popularity of online marketplaces, St. Martinville Police want to make sure the in-person part of the deal is safe. The department will soon unveil a Safe Exchange Zone just outside of their headquarters.
It’s a place for transactions and even child custody exchanges.
"If you were ever hesitant about doing exchanges because you feared for your safety when meeting a stranger in public, you don't have to worry about that now" says SMPD Public Information Officer Adam Touchet.
Touchet says the program is the first of many to come from the department's newly created Special Services Division and he hopes it will bring an increased sense of security to residents.
The zone should be operational by the end of the week.
