BREAUX BRIDGE — Some residents of St. Martin Parish tell KATC they have been without trash bins or trash pick up for weeks. Pelican waste services took over on July 1st, but several people have reached out to KATC saying they have more questions than answers.

Those who live on Doyle Melancon Extension in Breaux Bridge, like Mark Banquer and Joshua Martin, say they have not received new trash bins since Pelican Waste took over.

"I'd like to see my neighbors and myself get our trash containers so that we can kind of get back to our business and not worry about that anymore. It's kind of aggravation," Banquer said.

Neighbors say they have collectively called the company more than 30 times, and still, don't have answers.

Neighbors also say the biggest issue is that one person who lives on the road is a small business owner, and she only got trash cans after threatening to call KATC.

"She contacted them enough times to when they finally came and brought her a garbage can, which isn't the correct can. They left it but the issue was it was full of maggots. She's frustrated and her customers are complaining because of the issue. It reeks and it's unsanitary," Martin said.

Outside of the hair salon, there is two weeks worth of trash, and when you open it... Maggots by the dozen.

"It's frustrating. They've sent us bills, but they're not providing the services," Martin said.

The bill is just over $60 from July 1st and for the next three months. The neighbors say they shouldn't have to pay for services they weren't rendered.

Pelican Waste sent KATC this statement:
