Longtime Breaux Bridge Police Chief George Menard has died

A longtime law enforcement figure in Breaux Bridge has died. George Menard, Sr., passed away on October 19th at the age of 95.

His family says Menard was in law enforcement from 1953-1995, serving as Constable, City Marshal, and Chief of Police. He was the first elected Chief of Police in Breaux Bridge. Menard began his tenure as Chief with one police car and retired with a force of six cars.

His funeral will be held on Monday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge.

Visitation hours are Sunday, October 20, from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and will continue at 7 a.m. on Monday until the time of service.

Menard, also known as "Chief," is survived by five children, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three stepchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 14 step great-grandchildren.
