Town of Washington's budget issues continue

and last updated

The Town of Washington held a public hearing and special meeting tonight concerning the town's budget.

The meeting was soon canceled, though, after three council members didn't show up.

This comes after the town failed to pass a budget in October, prompting a possible state takeover.

The Mayor of Washington has since proposed a budget.

There will not be another meeting until an administrator is able to visit the town to assist.

KATC was at the meeting and spoke with residents, who expressed their frustration with the situation.

A council member who talked with us said council meetings have become hostile, with a fist fight breaking out at Monday's regular meeting.

The council member said they no longer feel safe attending the meetings.
