The Town of Washington is on the verge of having the state take over the town's finances, and they are not planning on discussing the budget at Monday's meeting.

KATC received a copy of the meeting's agenda and budget discussion has not been placed on the agenda at the time of the publication.

The council has failed to pass a budget and is currently operating on 50% of last year's budget. The town has a $600,000 budget shortfall and has been operating in a deficit for the past six years.

KATC spoke with Council member Tanya Doucet who says that she does not believe the budget will be brought up by anyone on the council.

Monday's meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, October 17, the town council failed to pass the budget failed a 3-2 vote during a special meeting.

According to Councilwoman Mona Wilson, she's hoping the mayor will come back with a budget the entire council can agree on before they get to that point. Read more here
