St. Landry Parish Deputies have made an arrest in connection with a shooting on Claude Street in Opelousas earlier this month.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said 18-year-old Donovan Rosette, Jr. met with detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and stated he was involved in a shooting on Claude St.

Rosette told detectives that while leaving the area of Claude Street with his friend, two juveniles tried to rob him at gunpoint. He stated the juveniles pointed the guns at his head, and attempted relieve him of the contents of his pockets. According to Rosette, one of the juveniles was in possession of two guns and the other juvenile had one gun. When the juveniles turned their heads, Rosette struggled with the juveniles and was able to take possession of one of the guns, police say. Sheriff Guidroz adds that Rosette said he started running and heard shots being fired, then returned fire towards the juveniles. Rosette admitted to the detectives that he shot in self defense and feared for his life.

After further investigation, police discovered that while departing from the attempted armed robbery, Rosette got off his bicycle and fired shots at the two juveniles. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was booked on March 13 into the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with Attempted Manslaughter. His bond was set at $10,000 and was later released.
