The Opelousas Police Department announced today "with deep sadness" the loss of K-9 Officer Zig.
Police say that Officer Zig served the community and was partner to his handler Sgt. Paul Cortez for eight years.
Officer Zig passed away on Friday due to serious medical issues.
The Police Department said the following about Officer Zig:
Officer Zig will be deeply missed by the Opelousas Police Department as he was a tireless and dedicated asset to the Department. Zig was vital in many investigations throughout his years of service.
