Opelousas residents gathered Saturday morning for a prayer walk through the city.

Women 2 Women Empowerment Group sponsored the Warriors Walk, and asked citizens to get involved and unify in the face of violence.

Organizers say they feel the need to come together and make their voices heard in Opelousas and the surrounding areas.

Deborah Modique, a member of Women 2 Women, explained, "We are going to be heard. We will not back up, we will not back down.."

The group is hoping to reach local and state government and law enforcement as well.

"We love them, but we want to hold them accountable to what they said they'd do," she said.

Walking with the purpose of unifying a community, starting with themselves, the participants gathered at the Farmer's Mart and walked to the city courthouse.

"I am holding everyone accountable who stands in leadership," explained Joyce LeDay. "It starts with the body. We need [officials] to also answer the call. We answered the call. We're called to unify."
