Opelousas Middle School held an event Friday focused on bringing the community together.
The non-profit Dads and Kids called on male role models in the community to be at the school Friday morning to greet and encourage students as they arrived at school.
Founder Elliot Mitchell says the group wants dads to become more involved in their child's life.
"What we want to do is get dads more positive with education," explained Mitchell. "A lot of stuff goes off to sports or other events. We try to focus more on education. (we've) got a lot of good dads."
Any male role model in the community - dads, grandfathers, uncles, local and state officials, law enforcement, etc. - were invited out to the event today.
