An Opelousas icon has closed its doors for the last time after 141 years in business.
J.B. Sandoz Hardware Store, located at 312 N. Main St., first opened in 1878.
Owners say big box stores and online retailers made it hard for the store to compete, but are grateful for the customers over the years.
"It's been a long haul and it's been wonderful. We just want to thank the community and all our loyal customers for the years of service they have given us," said Jeannie Richard, a cashier at J.B. Sandoz.
