A soldier from Grand Coteau was awarded a coin by the Acting Secretary of the Army for his contributions to the mission to defeat ISIS.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Josiah Charles from Grand Coteau is currently assigned to the Logistics Directorate as the senior logistics Noncommissioned Officer for Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve.

CJTF-OIR's primary mission is the defeat of ISIS in designated areas of Iraq and Syria and sets conditions for follow-on operations to increase regional stability.

Lt. General Pat White, CJTF-OIR and III Armored Corps Commanding General said he was proud of the Army.

"Our soldiers are doing phenomenal work out here. We put a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of young captains and sergeants, and they're knocking it out of the park."

The Acting Secretary of the Army visited the operation's headquarters on September 21 to receive updates and learn about the Army's total force contributions to defeating ISIS.
