ARNAUDVILLE — A boarding home in Arnaudville is making Christmas a little brighter to the men who live there, thanks to donations. A Christmas meal, gifts and more were given to those in need at The Mustard Seed. But the home's generosity goes beyond the holiday season.
The Mustard Seed is a place for men to get the help they're in need of. For some who've walked through their doors, it's been a life changing experience.
"Cliff, at one time man you probably didn't think you would see 61?" Joe Bailey asked.
"No, I was homeless and everything, walking the street, nowhere to go; in New Iberia," Cliff replied.
The boarding home helps some of their members find their own places to call home. Bailey bought the home in 2013; he didn't create The Mustard Seed, but kept it going.
"Thankful for Mr. Joe and The Mustard Seed, I've came along way" Cliff said.
This isn't your ordinary boarding home or shelter, but rather a safe haven for those with mental illnesses.
"They live here alone. They support each other. It's more of a family atmosphere, they bond, and bring unity to one another" Bailey said.
Bailey says oftentimes, patients leaving mental facilities will end up on the streets and the home will provide these men a place to call home.
"It's somewhere they're going to be loved, taken care of, get the support they need to better themselves or whatever direction they're trying to go," Bailey said.
Just as families do, this family celebrated Christmas Eve together. Each man was gifted several items, including X-Box games and slippers.
