The Youngsville City Council approved last week to amend the city's budget to increase starting pay of most of the city's police officers, according to The Advocate.
Officers' starting pay will increase from around $36,000 to $40,000 per year.
The increase will take effect in 2020.
Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux also has a pay plan in mind that will help the remaining officers see pay increases.
The Lafayette Police Department also recently saw a pay increase. That increase was approved at the beginning of November, bringing the starting pay for officers from $35,000 to $40,000.
