The owner's idea to open a tomahawk throwing range started taking shape this past winter.
Range master Micah Lopez's buddy had bought some axes for his store The Rustic Renegade.
One day, Lopez was out in the backyard and decided to throw the tomahawk at a tree stump and stuck it.
Soon Lopez began throwing tomahawks as a way to blow off steam.
Lopez says "An idea struck me one day as I was kinda feeling a little stressed out by the issues of life, throwing tomahawks (to feel) better, I'm like man I want more people to experience this."
As Lopez was building the range, he did it with a purpose - to make the experience as safe as possible.
He used a gravel surface to help dispel the energy of the tomahawks if someone spikes them into the ground.
Also, Lopez uses 3D tree slices for his targets, as they slow down the tomahawks after they hit the target even if they bounce back off.
Lopez is now partnering with The Hero Program to help combat veterans and other first responders deal with their issues through tomahawk therapy.
The Rustic Range is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am til 3:30 in the afternoon.
