OLOL Blood Donor Center promoting neighborhood blood drives

Posted at 11:41 AM, May 23, 2020

Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Center is promoting a new concept for blood drives in Acadiana - neighborhood drives.

OLOL is in urgent need of blood of all types due to drives being canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Saturday, Lafayette resident Kelli Kaufman hosted a blood drive in her neighborhood on Acacia Drive in an attempt to promote the new concept. Organizers hope the drive will encourage others to sign up to host or help with drives in their own neighborhoods.

"We know there is a shortage nationwide, not just locally. But to be able to save lives locally by doing something as simple as this and as easy, and painless, and quick as this is just a no-brainer," explained Kaufman. "We can all do our part."

Organizers will bring the blood donor center to your neighborhood. Donations from neighbors are scheduled in advance to allow donors and team members to practice safe, social distancing and thorough cleaning and sanitizing.

The drives are not public, community drives.

Anyone wishing to sign up to host a neighborhood blood drive can contact the Blood Donor Center at 337-470-GIVE(4483).
