The century-old holiday fundraiser for the Salvation Army is getting an upgrade this year.
People will now be able to use their cell phones to donate during the Red Kettle campaign.
"We are introducing a new way to pay at the kettles since we don't all carry cash, we don't all carry cards, we are now introducing "Kettle Pay" which is a way to pay with your Apple IPhone or other smartphone," said Lt. Samantha McGee, Core Officer for the Salvation Army in Lafayette.
The process is really simple. Just tap your phone to the Apple or Google pay logo on the sign and the Salvation Army website will pull up on your phone.
From there you can select an amount and click okay.
The Salvation Army is hoping the new "Kettle Pay" will increase their donations this year.
"Our goal is $200,000 for this kettle season that helps us throughout the year with our shelter with people who come for assistance our Christmas program Angel Tree, so it really does help us throughout the year," McGee said.
The Red Kettle campaign officially kicks off on Black Friday but a few are already up outside a couple stores in Acadiana.
