Milton home deemed total loss after early morning fire

A Milton home was deemed a total loss after an early morning fire on Saturday.

According to Lafayette Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan, multiple area fire departments responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of East Broussard Road around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Milton, Lafayette, Broussard, and Youngsville Fire Departments arrived on scene to a "fully involved residential fire."

The single family, wood-framed dwelling was not occupied when firefighters arrived. Witnesses stated that the residents exited the dwelling without any injuries.

Fire crews battled the blaze for 30 minutes before getting it under control. The home was a total loss.

Trahan said the dwelling was "not in normal use, but occupied at the time." There were no utility services to the dwelling.

The circumstances of the fire are under investigation. Lafayette arson investigators are examining the fire to determine was transpired.
