A Milton couple, Louis and Julia Broussard, are inviting local residents to attend their sugarcane grinding and syrup making event on Saturday until 4 p.m.
Attendees will get to see firsthand how sugarcane is crushed and the juices are collected to make syrup.
Louis Broussard plants and harvests his own sugarcane. He employs a small mule named Thelma that slowly walks in a circle as sugarcane is added to be crushed or pulverized.
The annual event highlights how Cajun ancestors made syrup-au vieux temps.
The address is 333 Nora Broussard Road in Youngsville.
Broussard plans to have young local musicians playing Cajun music and plans on having corn on hand so attendees can try their hand at making your own corn meal.
